Backcountry Touring
Backcountry touring is the perfect place to begin if you’ve never tried Nordic skiing—and just as exciting for experienced skiers looking for a fresh way to explore Colorado’s winter wilderness. Our touring skis are mid-range in width and weight, falling between lightweight classic cross-country skis and heavier telemark or alpine touring gear, while the boots feel much like supportive hiking boots for added comfort and stability.
With this equipment, you can glide across frozen lakes, through open meadows, and into quiet aspen and pine groves with breathtaking views and the peaceful sounds of winter. Our expert guides tailor each outing to your ability level and, thanks to our extensive North Routt permit access, can take you far beyond the ranch for the signature backcountry experience that truly sets Vista Verde apart.
Classic Skiing
Classic skiing is a wonderful way to learn traditional Nordic technique while enjoying the quiet beauty of winter at Vista Verde. Our 15km of groomed trails around the ranch are ideal for classic skiing, with beginner-friendly loops that take you through open meadows, over babbling creeks, and into the aspens.
It’s approachable even if your form isn’t perfect—and it’s a perfect option for guests who want the freedom to grab gear and head out for a peaceful solo ski on the track.
Skate Skiing
Skate skiing is the most athletic and demanding form of Nordic skiing we offer. It’s perfect for guests looking to challenge themselves and get a great full-body workout while exploring our groomed trail system.
