Summertime is the perfect time for road tripping, and with its diversity of landscape, Colorado is a state worth exploring. Along with the majestic peaks, pristine lakes, and abundant wildflowers, there are some other unusual attractions that are worth heading off the beaten path to explore. Whether you’re adding on some extra time to your VVR stay or just coming to explore the state without a stop at the ranch, here are some great road trip ideas.
The Horse Lover
Colorado is home to four wild horse herds that are managed by the Bureau of Land Management. There has been a fair amount of controversy about the management of these herds in the past couple years, but nonetheless it is still an amazing experience to witness these horses running free in their wild settings. Learn more about the herds and where to find them at UncoverColorado.
The Beer Connoisseur
There is an allure to a nice, cold beer after a day out in the mountains. It started with Coors, then New Belgium got on the map, and now there are hundreds of breweries across the state. If you are a beer lover, we suggest hitting the trails and exploring the high alpine lakes, but you might want to organize your road trip to hit as many different breweries as possible along the way. Check out the many breweries who are members of the Colorado Brewers Guild.
The Hot Springs Soaker
It may be a surprise to find out that underneath the Rocky Mountains of Colorado is a vast array of geothermal activity generating hot springs located all over the state. In fact, there is a popular driving tour of the state that allows you to explore 17 of these thermal destinations. Pack your suit and a towel along with your cowboy/girl boots and let the soaking begin!
